Vision changes during pregnancy
Vision changes during pregnancy are common and often temporary, caused by hormonal, metabolic, and physical changes in the body. These changes can affect the eyes in several ways:
Dry Eyes: Hormonal shifts can reduce tear production, leading to discomfort and irritation.
Blurry Vision: Fluid retention may alter the shape of the cornea, causing temporary refractive changes and blurry vision.
Increased Sensitivity to Light: Hormones can heighten light sensitivity.
Worsening or Improvement of Preexisting Conditions: Vision issues like nearsightedness or astigmatism may temporarily worsen or improve.
Pregnancy-Related Hypertension or Preeclampsia: These conditions can cause more severe vision problems, such as spots, flashing lights, or even temporary vision loss, which require immediate medical attention.
Gestational Diabetes: High blood sugar levels can affect the retina and lead to vision changes.
Most vision changes resolve after childbirth, but any sudden or severe changes should be discussed with a healthcare provider to rule out serious complications
