The honeymoon phase of pregnancy

The second trimester (weeks 13 to 27) is often called the "honeymoon phase" of pregnancy because many of the tough early symptoms from the first trimester—like nausea, extreme fatigue, and morning sickness—start to fade, and moms-to-be generally feel much better. Here’s why:

1. Less Nausea & More Energy

  • Morning sickness usually improves around week 14, making it easier to eat and enjoy food again.
  • Energy levels often increase, helping moms feel more active and productive.

2. Growing Baby Bump, but Still Comfortable

  • The baby bump starts showing, but it’s not so big that movement becomes difficult.
  • Less bloating and discomfort compared to the third trimester.

3. Hormones Balance Out

  • While hormones are still high, they are more stable than in the first trimester, reducing mood swings.
  • Many women experience the pregnancy "glow" due to increased blood flow and oil production.

4. Baby’s First Movements (Quickening!)

  • Around 16-22 weeks, moms start feeling the baby move, which is exciting and helps with bonding.

5. Fewer Restrictions & More Enjoyment

  • Most food aversions subside, and cravings can be fun.
  • Traveling is still comfortable, making it a great time for a "babymoon" before the third trimester.

Even though it’s called the "honeymoon phase," some symptoms like heartburn, leg cramps, or round ligament paincan still happen. But overall, this is usually the most enjoyable part of pregnancy
