Metallic Taste in the mouth during pregnancy

A metallic taste in the mouth during pregnancy is a common symptom called dysgeusia, and it's usually not a cause for concern:

What it is
Dysgeusia is a change in your sense of taste that can cause a metallic, sour, burnt, salty, or foul taste in your mouth, even when you're not eating.

When it happens
It's most common during the first trimester, and usually subsides in the second.

What causes it
Hormonal changes during pregnancy are thought to be the cause.

What to do
To help with the taste, you can try:
Drinking water with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice
Sipping on ice water or ice chips
Eating citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, grapefruit, pineapple, and kiwi
Eating vinegar-soaked foods like pickles, olives, gherkins, chutneys, and sauces
Brushing your teeth and tongue often
Flossing your teeth daily
Using a mouthwash
